Startups in Silicon Valley once again causing a STIRR

Stirr had its monthly mixer event once again at a new place this month a new format called Founder Hacks. Four founders presented and shared some tips or “hacks” that each went through in the process of getting funding or getting their company live. The presenters included David Marks, CEO of Loomia, David Weekly, CEO of PBWiki, Munjah Shah, CEO of Riya/Like.com, and Ted Rheingold, the CEO of Dogster. Just like any other networking, this event is a great opportunity for people to network with other entrepreneurs and see what everyone else is doing. There were also demo booths by Getsatisfaction.com, Gigya.com, and Talktiva. Sun Microsystems, sponsored the event along with AboveNet and promoted their new Sun Startup Essentials Program, which provides up and coming startups with open sourec software and discounted hardware. A Sun Fire server was also given away at the event to one lucky Startup. I am going to follow Jessica’s format in evaluation.

1) Quality of presentations: 8/10 - The tips can definitely be helpful for other entrepreneurs who will come across the same issues and concerns.

2) Venue: 9/10 - The new location at Trader Vic’s was a great place with a decent sized conference room as well as an excellent outdoor patio section.

3) Food/Drink: 5/10 - Unfortunately, Alcohol was not free and slightly pricey (but normal for a nice place in Palo Alto). There was a minimal amount of food being brought around that got snatched up as soon as they left the kitchen door. But it was decent food.

4) Quality/Quantity of Attendees: 9/10 - This event brings together a great crowd of entrepreneurs as a lot of the people who attend have a product or company that either just went live recently, or is going through beta release.
