Women in Venture Capital

Girls in Tech presented a “Women in Venture Capital” panel discussion at Porter Novelli’s very nice and sheeky SF office space. The main focus of the event was aimed towards women entrepreneurs and the ratio was about 50/50 for men and women. As far as appealing the event to women, being an event in the Bay Area, I would say it was very successful considering the normal ratio of any event is about 80/20 men and women.

The Panelists consisted of:

  • Trae Vassallo of Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield, Byers
  • Jennifer Fonstad of Draper, Fisher, Jurvetson
  • Eve Phillips of Greylock Partners
  • Maha Ibrahim of Canaan Partners

Moderator: Joanna Glasner, Sr. Editor of Thomson Financial

Founders of Girls in Tech, LaurieAnne Lassek and Adriana Gascoigne

1) Quality of Presentations: 9/10 - It was a very informative discussion of their personal background and experience as well as their thoughts and ideas of the industry. They also gave helpful advice for entrepreneurs. I was happy to hear that almost all of their VC companies were highly funding green/clean technology companies and although many of those are in stealth mode, I am sure we will be seeing and hearing a lot more about those companies soon.

2) Venue: 9/10 - The office space of Porter Novelli was an awesome place that had a great area for the presentation. Although some people did have to sit on the floor and stand, for the amount of people that came to this event, this place was perfect.

3) Food/Drink: 8/10 - There was a pretty good selection of appetizers and drinks. So I can’t complain.

4) Quality/Quantity of Attendees: 8/10 - For an event with a guy, girl ratio of 50/50, you can’t really go wrong. The crowd contained your typical assortment of people from tech, entrepreneurs, business, to marketing people.

5) Overall, worth attending? Yes, it was well worth the time to listen to four very brilliant women in the VC industry with great work experience and education.
